The Free State finished their Currie Cup campaign with no wins when the Pumas thrashed them on Friday with 42-14.
One actually started to fee sorry for this young Free State side and although they have gotten some massive defeats this season they do deserve a bit better, or that is how one feel.
The Pumas had to come out and get full points to have a slight chance to stay in the running for the playoffs and Jimmy Stonehouse troops did just that.
The Pumas set the tone for the rest of the match early on when they quickly crossed over the line three times. Stefan Ungerer who has signed this week with the Kings have shown why he has been the inform nine in the Currie Cup this year. He was absolutely brilliant and Kings coach Davids will be counting the days when the scrumhalf joins his side.
Rudy Paige did hit back for the home team before Neil Maritz restored the visitors’ 21-point buffer just shy of the interval.
The second half was a bit more even than the first half and it was Snyman who scored for the Free State next but the Pumas crossed the line twice after that with Schoeman and Westraadt
With Stonehouse’s men in control, their intensity dropped in the second period, but they were not unduly troubled by the Cheetahs.
