There was not too many people happy with the 2018 Currie Cup format and although nothing has been said by SA Rugby rumours have it that it is set to change in 2019.
With 2019 also a World Cup year all tournaments are being shuffled and it seems the indications are that the Currie Cup will also do.
According to the Sunday Times we will see a different format and also at a different time than what we saw this year.
The rumour is that the four Super Rugby franchises will form one group with the PRO14 franchises forming the other group which will include the Pumas and Griquas.
The teams will then play a double round of group matches before the playoffs.
The idea is also that the tournament will run from end of July till September.
This will also insure that the Cheetahs will be able to play their best team in the Currie Cup next year.
Nothing has been confirmed so we will have to wait and see if this is in-fact the route SA Rugby will take for the Currie Cup.
