With the annual strenuous and demanding 606km Ride for MRP Foundation just less than a month away, the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) Team is training hard.

2018 will observe the 9th edition of the event, with over 50 cyclists taking part to create awareness and fundraise for the incredible ongoing work of the MRP Foundation.

The MRP Foundation is committed to empowering young South Africans from low-income and under privileged communities through their various education and skills development programmes.

Ride for MRP Foundation is far more than ‘just a challenge’ as the 606km has to be completed over a two-day period.

Taking place between the 2-3 December 2018, it is an incredible opportunity for a diverse peloton of brave cyclists, supported by various industry sponsors, to assist our youth in reaching their potential and achieving their dreams.

Ride For MRP Foundation is considered to be South Africa’s most challenging cycling event and continues to grow in size and legendary status.

The two-day cycle ride, from Secunda to Durban, will see two of our most-loved rugby legends taking part, namely; Wayne Fyvie and Stefan Terblanche. It’s a challenge that provides deep purpose for our Rugby Legends and one that they are particularly proud to take part in.

The legends will be joined by Paul Muller who is an avid cyclist and a long serving supporter of the rugby legends through DSV. As one of SARLA`s loyal supporters, DSV has provided sponsorship to the Legends for many years, and together they have covered many kilometres on the bike.

The bright, multi-coloured peloton of courageous cyclists proudly wear different coloured jerseys representative of their participatory rides to date.

Since Ride For MRP Foundation’s first event in 2010, ZAR2 million has been raised. Wayne Fyvie, former Sharks Rugby Captain is riding for the second time and said “At first the thought of completing 606km in two days seemed pretty crazy to me but upon completing my first ride I was overwhelmed with the knowledge that I am part of an incredible journey with an amazing purpose, and that’s unrivalled.” Fyvie added “It’s pretty close to the feeling of victory on the rugby field, it’s just awesome!”

Stefan Terblanche, CEO of SARLA, said “I couldn’t be more excited supporting such an important cause, the Ride For MRP Foundation falls directly in line with what we are committed to achieving through sport at SARLA and, in particular, with our VUKA Rugby programme.”
