It was a close game throughout the eighty minutes and only a last minute penalty from Barrett that separated the two teams with the Hurricanes taking the win 25-22.
Although the Hurricanes had early field position, they could not covert that into points most due to handling errors.
Both teams found it hard to hang on to the ball as they try to get dominance in the match.
The Highlanders scrum started well, and it was from a Hurricanes scrum which they scored the first try through Aaron Smith to take the early lead of 5-0.
The game struggled to get going with both teams trying to get the game going but mistakes just stop every promising move.
It was the Hurricanes that scored next through Laumape to give the Hurricanes the lead.
The Highlanders retained the lead from a penalty by Josh Ioane which turned out to be a very tight game.
It was again some magic from Barrett with a cross kick that found Laumape just before halftime that gave the Hurricanes the lead back.
They went into the break with a 14-8 lead.
The Hurricanes started to get more control of the game in the second half but some good scramble defence from the Highlanders kept them out.
Barrett also came into the game more showing off his skills.
Against the run of play a bit the Highlanders regained the lead with an intercept from Sio Tomkinson.
A penalty for a high tackle from Hurricanes gave the Highlanders field position and they got to a five meter lineout.
From the lineout they got some backs in to drive Coltman over for another try and extended their lead to 22-14.
The Hurricanes got back in the game firstly with a penalty from Barrett and then some great play at the back to get Lam over for their third try.
This squared everything up at 22-all with 8 minutes to play.
The Hurricanes worked their way back in the Highlanders half after the hooter has gone and with a few phases running at the Highlanders they forced a penalty straight infront.
Barrett stepped up and kicked the winning points.
It was a tight affair and anyone’s game till the end but the Hurricanes with the win of 25-22.
