Ward suspended for five weeks

As if it was not enough that the Sharks was outplayed at Loftus last weekend they got some more bad news that their centre Jeremy Ward has been suspended from Super Rugby for five weeks for dropping Specman dangerously from a lifting tackle.

Replays showed Ward lifting Specman in an off-the ball tackle and then dropping him head first into the ground.

Referee Van Der Westhuizen opted not to review this incident nor did the TMO came in to report it.

We knew from the replays during the game that Ward was in trouble and five weeks suspension is most properly the right call.

Ward was later cited and the Sanzaar foul play committee accepted his guilty plea for contravening the law which says that a player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground.

The Sharks have a bye this week before taking on the Rebels next week in Durban.
