Match Report – Brumbies squeeze a win over Tahs

After a couple of losses the Brumbies were able to get one over the Waratahs at home when they beat them 19-13 on Friday.

With two of the top Aussie teams on the park we expected a great clash on Friday.

The Waratahs had some early field position and converted that into points when Bernard Foley hit the upright and Michael Hooper got hold of the ball to drive over for the first try of the match.

Foley hot the upright again on the conversion which gave the Waratahs a 5-0 lead early on.

The Brumbies started the dominate and got back into the game. They took the lead when Folau Fainga’a crashed over the line. The conversion was successful which gave the home side a 7-5 lead.

The Brumbies kept the pressure on the Waratahs and from a lineout drive Folau Fainga’a was at the end of another perfect drive.

The conversion was again against the upright which gave the Brumbies a lead of 12-5.

As if the Waratahs did not had enough problems Sekope Kepu was send off with a yellow card for a clean-out which was dangerous.

The second half was started with both teams not really showing us any good rugby with so many mistakes and it took a full 11 minutes for Alex Newsome to go over in the corner for the Tahs.

The Brumbies got a lineout again, few meters out from the Waratahs line which resulted into a penalty try and a yellow card for Harry Johnson-Holmes.

This gave the home side a bit a breathing space with a lead of 19-10 with 25 minutes to go.

The Waratahs pulled three back with a penalty through Foley.

The Waratahs had plenty of opportunities but again handling errors let them down.

It seems it is the same old story when it comes to the Waratahs, unable to catch a ball on perfect attacking play.

The Brumbies fully deserve the win and will be very happy after a couple of losses.
