We were treated to one of the great games this season when the Hurricanes got a great away win over the Highlanders on Friday.
At the end the scoreboard showed 31 Hurricanes 28 Highlanders and it was end to end stuff form the start.
We could see that we were in for a great game of Rugga’s when both teams started the match showing off their skill on attack.
It was end to end stuff in the first 11 minutes of the match with the Hurricanes with the field possession but Highlanders defence was solid.
With so much ball in play it was surprising that the first try only came in the 19th minute when Shannon Frizell got over after multiple phases.
This gave the home side a 7-0 lead.
It took not long for the Hurricanes to hit back after a great break in the midfield to give Perenara the opportunity to pick the ball from the ruck and dive over.
With that try TJ Perenara became the first halfback to score 50 tries in Super Rugby.
The Highlanders were next to score from a drive when replacement Elliot Dixon went over.
This gave the Highlanders a 14-7 lead after 30 minutes.
The Hurricanes were under pressure with the home side with most of the ball. It was an error that gave Ardie Savea the intercept to run almost the lenght of the field to score the Hurricanes second try of the match.
Barrett kicked the conversion to make it 14-all as the teams went into the break.
The second half started at the same pace as the first and it was a penalty from Barrett that started the scoreboard going again.
The Highlanders got themselves back into the Hurricanes twenty two and from a scrum it was Hammington that snipped over for the home side third try and the lead of 21-17.
The Highlanders kept the pressure on the Hurricanes and forced a lineout five meters out which the executed the perfect drive from the lineout for their forth try.
The Hurricanes hit back with Lam with the break and giving the ball to Savea he showed off his stepping ability to get over for his second try of the match.
This reduced the lead to 28-24 with 18 minutes till to go.
The Hurricanes regain the lead with a break from Barrett as he offload to Ngani Laumape to show off his speed and stepping ability.
The Highlanders was camping in the Hurricanes twenty two but some brilliant defence kept them out.
The Highlanders gave everything but just could not get it done.
