Match Report – Blues grinding out win against Waratahs

It was a game of character when the Blues beat the Waratahs on Saturday 32-29.

They have shown us everything in set pieces, defence, attack and able to close out games.

The Blues have been on a winning streak, something we have not seen in years from the men from Auckland.

The Waratahs struggled to get into the game with the Blues dominated. They were bullying the Waratahs upfront which allowed their backs more space and time on attack.

The Blues got on the board with a penalty before Ma’a Nonu got a great pass out to Robinson for their first try.

It took not long for their second try when Ma’a Nonu again created the space for Caleb Clarke to go over.

This gave them a 17-0 lead.

The Waratahs got one back after some ball in hand with Israel Folau getting a cross kick to go over.

The Waratahs kept on with their comeback as they dominated the second part of the half playing all the rugby in the Blues half.

They finally got rewarded when they drive over for their second try just before the break to make the halftime score 17-14.

The Blues had the better start to the second half and had to work hard for their third try and extend the lead to 22-14.

The Blues extended the lead when Ma’a Nono crash over to give the Blues some more breathing space.

With the score at 29-14 the Waratahs got one back to make it 29-21 before they kicked a penalty to make it 29-24.

The Blues got back into the Waratahs half and a disallowed try gave the Blues a penalty to extend the lead again to 32-24.

The Waratahs made it a a 3 point game when they scored their third try with 4 minutes to go.

The Blues showed so much character in the end to close out the game for three minutes at end.
