SA teams will struggle to make playoffs

We are halfway through this years Super Rugby competition and I am between a rock and a hard place on where we could see out teams ending.

Luckily due to the crooked SANZAAR system we will atleast have one team in the playoffs. The conference winner will automatically be awarded a home quarter final spot.

Now the rest of the spots are for the teams with the highest log position overall meaning from four to eight will get into the playoffs.

At the moment the way our teams are performing it looks more likely that we will only have one team in that playoffs but we can even loose that if the Jaguares manage to end on the top spot in our conference.

Here is what the teams have left for the season.

Bulls(6th on current log)

Reds(H) Stormers(A), Waratahs(H), Crusaders(H), Rebels(A), Brumbies(A), Blues(A), Highlanders(A) and Lions(H).

Lions(7th on current log)

Brumbies(A), Chiefs(A), Crusaders(A), Waratahs(A), Highlanders(H), Sharks(A), Hurricanes(H), Stormers(H), Bulls(A)

Sharks(3de on current log)

Jaguares(H), Reds(H), Waratahs(A), Crusaders(A), Chiefs(A), Lions(H), Hurricanes(H), Jaguares(A), Stormers(A)

Stormers(11th on current log)

Rebels(A), Brumbies(H), Bulls(H), Jaguares(A), Crusaders(H), Highlanders(H), Lions(A), Sunwolves(H), Sharks(H)

The Sharks have for now the top spot but they still have to tour and they will have to face the Tahs, Saders, Chiefs and Jaguares on the road.

They also have the Stormers away at Newlands and with their inconsistency again this year it is up to the betting men and woman to back them staying on top.

They will have to win these home games which lately seems a problem for the Durban outfit.

They will also have to target atleast two wins overseas as well.

The Lions also have still a tough schedule with Brumbies, Chiefs Crusaders and Waratahs on tour.

The best case for them looks to target the Brumbies and Chiefs, but both teams have been improving the last couple of weeks and at home they will be a s difficult as the Crusaders and Tahs.

I just can not see the Stormers getting close to the playoffs. They will have to almost win all their games to catch up as this weekend looks like another defeat against the Rebels.

The Bulls will also struggle for me to get into the playoffs and need to win some away games to get in. With the current injury list of the Bulls I just can not see them staying with the leading pack.

So at the end we have the Lions and Sharks that looks the best options to make the playoffs, but not even that is a given.
