It was a massive performance from the Bulls forwards that laid the foundation for a bonus point win against the Reds at Loftus on Saturday.

With the win the Bulls move into the top spot in the South African conference.

There was a huge difference with the players like Pollard, Snyman, Kriel and Van Staaden coming back this week.

The Reds did not have answers to the Bulls forwards and struggled to get momentum.

The Bulls did not start well form the kickoff given a penalty away for the Reds to get on the board and lead early on 3-0.

The Bulls put their mark on the game from there with some great play between the backs and forwards.

They had the Reds on the back foot for the next few minutes and eventually Lizo Gqoboka went over for the first try and the lead to the Bulls.

Playing in the Reds twenty two the Bulls forced a penalty which Pollard kicked over to extend the lead to 8-3 after 16 minutes.

The Bulls got a good ball out to Jade Stighling but he failed to put the ball down, making a schoolboy error which cost the Bulls their second try.

They did manage to get over the line with Van Staaden crashing over from a lineout.

This gave the Bulls a 13-3 lead after 30 minutes in the first half.

The Bulls were in control of the match and their defence was up to everything that the Reds could give.

In that first half Van Staaden, Gelant and RG Snyman had a huge impact.

The Bulls kept the pressure on through some good forward play in the second half getting the ball from the kickoff to get over with Handre Pollard.

This gave the Bulls a 20-3 lead but it was the Reds captain that scored next getting his team first try of the match.

The Bulls quickly answer with a try Hanro Liebenberg going over after again some good hand to hand stuff from the Bulls forwards.

It was then the chance for Jade Stighling to get over after a perfect cross field kick form Pollard to take the lead to 32-10.

The Reds were not many times in the Bulls half during the game but when they did manage to do so they scored points. It was again the captain Samu Kerevi that went over to make the score 32-17.

Both teams tried to add more to the scoreboard but it ended with a bonus point 32-17 win for the Bulls.

  1. A bulls side with all its top players available will be hard to beat, but it needs all of them – this is why Mitchell wanted a few stars. Brits and Vermeulen add that.

Good win at home without them. The returning players like Snyman and van staden. But to be competitive v the best away – they need all fit.
