It was another interesting weekend of rugby and a few surprises that came our way as well.

Weekend Results

The EP Elephants got their second win of the season when they beat the Border Bulldogs 52-3 in PE.

The host scored eight tries to none and led 31-3 at the break and controlled the match form start to finish.

Zingisa April and Mikey Botha both scored two tries in a one sided affair.

This put the EP Elephants in the fifth position on the log behind with just one point behind the Sharks.

Leopards 50-52 Valke

With both teams going into halftime with the scores logged at 24-24 one could have expected that this would end as a close game.

The visitors at the end got the win with 52 points to 50 in a highly entertaining match for the crowd.

At the end it was eight tries for the Valke against the seven from the Leopards.

Valke – Tries: Rodney Damons (2), Coert Cronje, Friedle Olivier, Andrew van Wyk (2), Errol Jaggers. Conversions: Anrich Richter (4), Andre du Plessis (3). Penalty goal: Richter.

Griffons 34-24 Welwitschias

The Griffons had to hold of a spirited Welwitschias to get a 34-24 win after leading with just 19-17 at the break.

It was a close and well contested first half which saw a very loose game from both teams.

It was touch and go throughout the match but the Griffons had enough in the tank to outlast the men from Windhoek.

Windhoek Draught Welwitschias – Tries: Johannes Tromp, AJ de Klerk, Louis van der Westhuizen. Conversions: Cliven Loubser (3). Penalty goal: Loubser.

Free State Cheetahs 64-17 SWD Eagles

It was a hat-trick of tries for Jasper Wiese that helped the Free State to score and impressive win over the Eagles on Saturday when they beat them 64-17.

The big number eight was instrumental in the home side win scoring two tries in the first half and one more in the second.

SWD was still in the game at the break but Free State just stepped up in the second half and demolish the Eagles to take an impressive win.

WP 33-13 Zimbabwe

WP scored five tries for another win with full points to stay at the top of the South Section.

Province led 19-3 at the break and were just too good for Zimbabwe at the end.

Zimbabwe Academy – Try: Jafnos Chiwanza. Conversion: Brendon Mandivenga. Penalties: Mandivenga (2).

Sharks 29-28 Boland

The Cell C Sharks had to dig deep to get a win against Boland on Friday.

It took the Sharks 81 minutes to pull this one through with Rhyno Smith landing a penalty to take the game.

The Sharks also got the all important bonus point for four tries which put them in front of the Free State on the log.
