So we have two teams going into the playoffs this coming weekend after the Sharks got one over the Stormers again at Newlands and the Bulls outplayed the Lions at Loftus.
After digesting the two games I feel we can have a positive look at the weekend changes for the the Bulls and Sharks.
From the start most will believe both the Bulls and Sharks will go into their matches as underdogs but they may just have a better chance than many would want to believe.
Let’s face it the Sharks have been absolutely poor the last three games of the season and count themselves very lucky to be on the plane to Australia this week.
They have to face a Brumbies side who has been very good and a team I believe can surprise many in these playoffs but they have the Sharks who historically been the one side from South Africa who can win in Australasia.
The Sharks have plenty to improve on as the quality of Saturdays match against the Stormers was just not good enough.
About the only aspect of their game that worked was their defence. They struggled in the scrums so hopefully Beast will be ready for the Brumbies game.
Set pieces would be very important against a Brumbies side who is most properly one of the better sides when it comes to set pieces.
The one thing that have been a huge disappointment throughout the season was the Sharks creating enough opportunities but stuff it up through handling errors.
With quality players in the back the Sharks need to be managing their game better.
The Brumbies will ask a lot of question on Saturday and if they play to their abilities they will be able to challenge the Aussies.
In the other quarter final we will see the Bulls facing the highly rated Hurricanes.
It has been a long time since we can say that the Bulls have the team and the game to beat the Hurricanes even if they play this game in New Zealand.
The Bulls showed against the Lions and on tour that they have a quality side that is well balanced. They can play a great attacking game and score tries but also can pull it back and play the percentage game to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The success in the Bulls side this year is that they have a great balance between youth and experience players. The leadership in this team is showing when things get tight and the two draws on tour have made them a much better team when they are under pressure.
It was great to see the Bulls on Saturday attacking with purpose. They were running with speed with ball in hand and the interplay between forwards and backs added another dimension to their play.
One of the things that impressed on Saturday against the Lions was that the Bulls were able to strike back every time the Lions scored.
They never let up and played for the full eighty minutes which will be needed when you take on the Hurricanes in their own back yard.
It is not going to be easy, but the no playoff match are every easy but both the Bulls and Sharks have a chance to get to the semi finals and anything can happen form there on end.
