QF4 Match Report – Brumbies outplay Sharks to book place against Jaguares next week

The Brumbies were just too good for the Sharks on Saturday when they beat them 38-13.

It was not a good performance from the Sharks at all slipping in defence and poor on attack. Robert Du Preez were not able to get his star backline away throughout.

The Brumbies easily kept the scoreboard rolling from the first minute of the game and never really looked like loosing this one.

It is the end of the road for the Sharks ending really another poor season but the Brumbies will march on to Argentina next week to face the inform Jaguares in the semi-final

The Brumbies had the perfect start to the match as they caught some lazy Sharks forwards off-guard for Samu to have a clean run to the line for the first try of the match.

The Sharks had a bit of ball and forced a penalty which Bosch knocked over for the Sharks first points, but another poor defensive effort from the Sharks let Speight in for his try and a 14-3 lead.

The Sharks got another three points with Bosch kicking over another penalty to reduce the lead again.

The Brumbies looked the better team at that stage with ball in hand and had the Sharks on defence again to force a penalty. The kick went over to extend the lead to 17-6.

The Brumbies got their lineout five meters out and with their perfect drive they got over for their third try of the match and a 24-6 lead.

With the Brumbies in control of the match the Sharks were struggling to firstly get hands on the ball and secondly when they do they could do nothing about it.

The two teams went into the break with the Brumbies leading 24-6.

The second half just could not get going as both teams tried but made too many mistakes on attack.

It was the Sharks that finally got over the line with Esterhuizen that took it upon himself to crash through the defence to score the Sharks first try.

This reduced the lead to 24-13 after 58 minutes.

The Brumbies sealed the game in the 72 minutes really when Powell broke easily through the Sharks forwards to score his try.

This took the Brumbies to a 31-13 lead with 8 minutes to go. The Brumbies ended the game as they started it when Matt Lucas got over.

A really poor defensive effort from the Sharks and again no real plan on attack.
