It took them three years in three consecutive finals, but finally third time was the charm for the men from Kimberley when they beat the Pumas 28-13 on Sunday to claim the SuperSport Rugby Challenge trophy.
This team has worked extremely hard and made some crucial changes to their management and players which all worked towards them lifting the trophy on Sunday.
The beat a strong Pumas side which have up to the final not lost a game this season which speaks volumes of what effort was put in over the last two weeks by Griquas.
The were in control of the match throughout leading at the break with 16-8.
They just never let the Pumas get into the game dominating the game.
Griquas George Whitehead was on the top of his game adding 13 points to his team score in the match but it was his game management that stood out.
The first half was a tight contest but it was Griquas who started and ended the half well to have a good lead at the break.
The second half saw both teams throwing everything at each other but both sides defensive effort was very good on the day.
At the end it was just mend to be for Griquas as they took the trophy for the first time.
