SA Rugby U18 Craven Week – Blue Bulls upset Border with perfect second half performance

The Blue Bulls weathered the storm from Border in the first part of the first half to comeback and been the highly rated side 35-17.

Border had the early field possession camping in the Blue Bulls twenty two.

And they took advantage of that possession when Taylor got over for the first try of the match to give Border the lead.

The Blue Bulls hit back with sustain pressure on Border line to get Flusk to power over the line. The Bulls conversion was also not successful and the scoreboard showed 5-all after 10 minutes into the game.

Brilliant play from Border saw Tyeda getting over after Daimon O’Connell took a great break from a ruck which Border won. This gave Border a 10-5 lead again.

The game did not get going really in the middle part of the first half with both teams unable to get pass the defensive systems.

Mapantsela was the next man over for Border when the Blue Bulls could not exit properly.

This extend Border lead to 17-5.

The Blue Bulls had an opportunity just before the break but just could not get through the Border defence so close to the line.

The Blue Bulls did manage to pick up a loose ball by Roets to get over the line for their second try after Border also did not manage to exit properly from their twenty two.

This reduce the lead to 17-10 for Border and that was also the halftime score.

The second half started with the Blue Bulls taking control of the first few minutes playing inside the Border twenty two.

This was well rewarded with a try from Chris Kamffer putting in hard work to get over the line.

The Blue Bulls hit again with Nsuku Baloyi that steamed down the line for another try to give them a 22-17 lead.

The Blue Bulls extended their lead with a penalty to take the scoreboard to 25-17

The Blue Bulls got a runaway try with Janse van Rensburg running down the line again to score in the corner.

The Blue Bulls put the game beyond Border with a try from Nsuku Baloyi. This took the lead to 35-17 for the Blue Bulls.

Border did get one back with Goosen getting over but it was too late. Blue Bulls win 35-24
