The Sharks and Griquas will start the 2019 Currie Cup on Friday in Durban.
It is going to be a ‘Fast and Furious’ Currie Cup with only one single round of matches with the best four teams going through to the playoffs.
The Sharks has a new coach this season in Sean Everitt and he has picked a strong side for this weekend match.
The Sharks are also welcoming back Springbok JP Pietersen who has finish his stint in France. He will play in the midfield this weekend partnering with Jeremy Ward, who is also co-captain.
The Sharks have a massive test lying in front of them facing a Griquas team who are on a high after winning the SuperSport Challenge this year.
We expect the Sharks to come at the Griquas with their forwards but they have plenty of quality at the back.
This does not mean Griquas does not have the players to stand up against the Sharks pack, in-fact you can watch out for Khwezi Mona at prop, he is a brilliant player and had a great SuperSport Challenge campaign for the men from Kimberley.
Griquas will lean a lot on their captain George Whitehead who had a brilliant SuperSport Challenge tournament. His reading of the game and the way he controls it at the back has been impressive.
Griquas will be certainly not be a pushover and the Sharks will have to be on top of their game if they want to beat them.
They also have the speed to burn in the likes of Enver Brandt and in the midfield a good combination that worked well for this season so far in Andre Swartz and Michal Haznar.
Last season saw the Sharks winning the match in Kimberley 41-11.
It is going to be a great way to kick of the Currie Cup season on Friday and definitely not a game to miss.
