  1. That is one seriously unbalanced loose trio. See AC went for combinations in the backline, but failed to take into account serfontein and kriel hasn’t really been a centre combo all season. Interesting squad and mostly form has been rewarded.

    Go Bokke!

  2. I will watch the “highlights”, my blood pressure can’t handle another season like last year!

  3. France: 15 Brice Dulin, 14 Yoann Huget, 13 Henry Chavancy, 12 Gaël Fickou, 11 Virimi Vakatawa, 10 Jules Plisson, 9 Maxime Machenaud, 8 Louis Picamoles, 7 Loann Goujon, 6 Yacouba Camara, 5 Yoann Maestri (c), 4 Julien le Devedec, 3 Uini Atonio, 2 Clément Maynadier, 1 Jefferson Poirot
Replacements: 16 Camille Chat, 17 Eddy Ben Arous, 18 Mohamed Boughanmi, 19 Bernard le Roux, 20 Kévin Gourdon, 21 Baptiste Serin, 22 Jean-Marc Doussain, 23 Vincent Rattez

  4. @JT:
French back row is going to eat bokkies backrow for breakfast! However this French side is also not all that experienced… Which may be a good thing for the french!

  5. Surprise surprise… nope there aren’t any really!

As predicted with Vermeulen out AC put’s in arguably one of the most average Bok blind-siders to don the green and gold and after a shocker of a Super rugby season! All the while the form traditional monster JLDP languishes on the bench and Ackerman in the U20’s! The we see Kolisi playing out-of-position as an open-sider with the form (even if not traditional) open-sider not even in the 23!

A back three with no test caps… Skosan is at least in form has an ‘okay’ boot with Coetzee being the form 15 this season. Then there is Rhule who has had a shocker season… his positional defensive play has been terrible, has zero kicking game and Kiwi props have been running him down speed wise! Combrink was straight back from injury and smashing all and sundry on attack and defence not to mention he has a huge boot yet he’s not even there!

Which brings us to the centres… zero kicking option from 12 to back up Jantjies who we’re all hoping yet again can overcome what seems to be eternal test hiccups! The only thing even going for the centres (one that’s been playing 15 and wing) and the other that’s been average is that they’ve some semblance of game-time together!

Beast who is terribly out-of-form best step up and I simply shake my head at Coenie yet again being chosen at TH and the form RSA TH Dreyer not even in the squad! Akker should be there over Bongi by a country mile I suppose it’s bitter-sweet he’s there over Ralepele but who knows really with his shite LO throwing.

Not much to say about the rest of the bench except ho-hum there’s ‘flash’ Leyds… I’d given up counting how many times he and Kolbe got caught out on defence and steam-rolled in the tackle this season.

Unbelievable really… sign of shite selector or sign of the times… or both. If I were a few players not yet capped I’d seriously be considering packing my bags quick-smart.

  6. @JT:

This French side has all the hall-marks of the IRE ‘A’ side that came over last year… albeit that was more injury enforced.

  7. @bryce_in_oz:
Back row is my biggest concern – IMO it should be Ackers, Kriel, Whiteley. (in form combo) Jean-Luc on the bench.
Locks I am okay with. Front-row, wait and see…
9/10 at least a combo and they deserve another shot.
Back 3: Would prefer at least one of them with experience (Hougie if no one else comes to mind)
12/13 – potential is there but it is a wild card. They played well in a game about 3-4 years ago…

  8. Coetzee quotes:

    On the backline…

“We have gone for settled combinations that have played together”
“‘They are in good form so far this season and they will be battle-ready”

    On the forwards…

” Oupa Mohoje has good ball-carrying abilities”
“‘I am excited about our loose-trio combination they complement each other”
“our set piece was one of the positives in 2016 and I believe we will build on that.'” dash

  9. @JT:

I could live with Kolisi off the bench where he’s a better impact option… perhaps (big if) starting with JLDP/Whitely. Ackers can have a mid-weeker game with Cloet and Notshe.

I simply cannot see how Steyn could be left out with his boot in a test match and with such and inexperienced back three… I’d even have considered playing Hougaard on the wing in place of Rhule who should be nowhere near this side this season.

Form lock in RSA is at least getting a game with the ‘A’ side after smashing the crap out of Etzabeth and PSDT in his last match.

Otherwise yep… not much more to say. IMO an unconvincing win against this French side will do more bad than good. Why they’re even playing a test before the first ‘A’ game is beyond me… should have been the other way around and a few of the gaps could possibly have been filled by test time…

  10. What if they click and the Bokke play well and destroy this French team?
    What will we say then?
A loss – we told you so, AC must fall!
a narrow win – what you said
a massive win – French are kak, bokke just a little less kak?
    will be interesting diablo

  11. Come on – we should beat this raw Frenchies by 30 at least – with 14 men as Etsebeth sits on sideline! One of those games: If we win, I’ll be glad. If we lose, I’ll be ecstatic.
