Argentina new coach picks six new players in Championship squad


Argentina coach Ledesma has named his squad for this years Rugby Championships with six new faces in his team.

The new coach for the Pumas who took over from Hourcade has picked Marco Ciccioli, Diego Fortuny, Lucas Favre, Mayco Vivas, Franco Molina and Santiago Grondon, as the Pumas prepare for their opening game against South Africa at Kings Park in Durban next weekend.

He picked a 36-man squad which also includes star players like Agustin Creevy, Pablo Matera, Nicolas Sanchez and Emiliano Boffelli.

With there Super Rugby team improving massively this year they will set their sights on a major improvement in the Championships.

  1. Argentina is a really tough team to predict. Will we see the Jaguares that won in Aus and NZ or the Argentina that lost to Scotland and Wales B? Some say the losses were the players protesting against the coach. Same coach now as in Superrugby, so let’s see how they go

    I hope they will be more competitive overall. As I expect the All Blacks to once again be the favourites, it would be great to have a real dog fight between the Boks, Wallabies and Pumas.

  3. @Craven: in all honesty, I think that is the problem with SANZAAR competitions at the moment. It is just so predictable. NZ teams will dominate Superrugby and win it, NZ will dominate the Rugby championship and win it. Really only tussle this year will be if we or the Argies are wooden spooners.

    It is not NZ’s fault, but it is becoming pretty predictable and boring.

    Would you rather play weaker teams so they can win some without actually pulling their finger and stepping up?
