Montpellier was too good for WP Currie Cup side when they beat them 26-7 on Thursday night in Millau.
Bismarck Du Plessis was one of the try-scorers for Montpellier which was loaded with South African players.
The French side picked a close to full strength side for the match and were just too strong for the WP team.
WP scored their only try just after halftime when Ntubeni went over for the cape side but the reply came quickly with two more tries from Montpellier.
The hosts doubled that lead when Vincent Martin collected a pass from Frans Steyn to score Montpellier’s second try, with Johan Goosen knocking over another conversion just before half-time.
WP will kick off their Currie Cup title defence with a clash against Free State on 25 August.
