Leinster further extended their lead at the Conference B summit after they beat the Cheetahs 19-7 in their PRO14 match at the RDS Arena on Friday.
Despite missing several players due to international commitments, the Irish outfit picked up the victory that takes them 26 clear at the top.
It’s been a cakewalk for Leinster in this Conference with their nearest challengers being Benetton, who play host to Edinburgh on Saturday.
Leo Cullen’s charges crossed twice in the first-half but probably should have been playing against 14 men for 70 minutes after Cheetahs prop Ox Nche led with the shoulder, which caught the head of wing Fergus McFadden. Referee Nigel Owens, however, only brandished yellow for the offence.
It didn’t deter Leinster though as they scored a minute later through inside centre Conor O’Brien, who burst through the tackle, before the Cheetahs hit back on 15 minutes when wing Sibhale Maxwane got to the loose ball first for a converted try that levelled matters at seven apiece in Dublin.
Leinster hit the front again on 23 minutes when wing Adam Byrne celebrated his 50th appearance with a try, making it 12-7 at the break.
O’Brien’s centre partner Rory O’Loughlin provided Leinster third try of the night on 56 minutes, converted by Ross Byrne, for a 19-7 buffer.
That gave Leinster the carrot to push for the bonus point, but the Cheetahs stood firm, which meant the PRO14 giants were denied a maximum.
