Welcome to another edition of Danny’s Desk. This Saturday is the President’s Cup Finals Day at DHL Newlands. What a way to end the club rugby season, by bringing club rugby back to our grand old stadium!

It promises to be a fantastic day, thanks to WP Rugby, SAB and the Treble Group and our media partners on the day, Cape Town TV and Bok Radio.

The day begins at 11h10 with the final of the Super League A Under-20 competition between Durb-Bell and False Bay. The Super League C Final will be contested between Langa and Franschoek at 12h30. That will be followed by the Super League B Final between Milnerton and Villager’s at 14h00 and the day will end with the Super League A Final between Belhar and Durb-Bell at 16h00 (followed by the prize-giving).

Aside from all the on-field action, there is R30,000 worth of prizes and prize money on offer for the best dressed fans and there will be TVs on the Castle Lawns to watch the BIG Springboks v All Blacks match at 17h00. If ever there was a time to experience what club rugby is all about, it is Saturday at DHL Newlands.

Congratulations are in order to Ricky Petersen and the DHL Western Province Sevens team who secured a fourth-place finish at the 2014 Safari Sevens in Kenya. The WP Sevens team won two out of three matches on the Saturday before narrowly losing out to the Warriors in the Cup semifinals on Sunday. It was great to once again see our club rugby favorites playing in another prestigious tournament – having done so well in Limerick and London in August.

Next week is the WP Rugby Awards Dinner. This event has proved to be a highlight of the rugby year and is a great way to end the season. It will be great to have club and professional players under one roof and it promises to be a fantastic occasion as we reward the top clubs and also the DHL Western Province professional players who have excelled all year long.

The DHL Western Province Under-19, Under-21 and senior teams are all in Bloemfontein, as they prepare to face up to their Cheetahs opponents at the Free State Stadium this weekend. All three our teams are on the verge of securing home-ground advantage, so best of luck to them in their matches tomorrow!

Catch the highlights on Cape Rugby TV at 9pm on Wed on Cape Town TV and DSTV ch263
