The 2015 Craven Week is around the corner and the WPRFU are hard at work with final preparations for this prestigious tournament.
The LOC have been meeting for the past couple of weeks ensuring that all preparations are on track for this premier tournament that was last hosted in Western Province in 2007. The LOC is chaired by Kervin Grove, ably assisted by Tournament Director Danny Jones, Theo Kleynhans, and Petrie Stoffberg and they will ensure that it will be all systems go for this tournament kicking off on 13th of July.
In Referee’s news, the VUKA tournament at Rocklands is still underway and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from both the schools and the referees.
Tomorrow a combined Level 1 and introductory Referees course will be held at Table View High School. The course runs from 07h30 – 15h00 and applications to attend are still available.
There was some club rugby action last weekend as teams are making up for postponed fixtures. At Theo Marais Park Union-Milnerton thumped Hamlets 56 – 20 in front of a packed crowd. The game had an added significance as afterwards there was a handover of goods for the struggling Du Noon community.
Union-Milnerton’s annual charity drives have become a highlight of the club season and it was great to see so many people involved in the donation process.
Clubs competing in the Top 9 Promotion League are soon to be confirmed and fixtures will be released shortly. The top 3 clubs from the City, Northern, and Southern regions will make up the competition with the top 3 gaining promotion to Super League C next year.
A seven’s tournament will be taking place at Erica Park in Belhar on the 10thand 11th July. Sixteen teams had been confirmed for the event. Competing in Pool 1 will be Hamiltons, Masiphumelele, Peninsula and Bishop Lavis with Pool 2 made up of False Bay, Blue Jets, All Saints and Young Wesleys. In Pool 3 the teams of Belhar, Silverleaf, Rocklands and Delft will be competing and in Pool 4 will be Elsies River, Strand, Whistling Wheels and a representative team from the Simonsberg Region.
In Super League B action this weekend, Brackenfell host Hamlets at Brackenfell in another crunch clash.
At the SARU Girls U16 Week in Oudtshoorn the Western Province girls U16 team remain undefeated after beating the Limpopo Blue Bulls 26-0 in the opening round and easily defeated the Free State 48 – 0 in the semifinals.
Today they face Border in the final and we wish our girls the very best of luck in their effort to take the title
