Home Castle Lager Rugby Championship 2017 Coenie out with broken arm

Coenie out with broken arm

Beside the fact that referee Jackson could not see the illegal tactics the Aussies used at scrum time the Springboks lost Coenie Oosthuizen with a broken arm as well on Saturday.

He will be replaced by WP Wilco Louw.

Oosthuizen sustained the injury in the second half of the encounter which ended in a draw after both sides scored two converted tries and three penalties each.

He will go back to Durban to see a specialist but it is expected he will be out for a few months.

It is hard breaking that referees can not see these days as poor scrums like the Aussies use illegal tactics in an important aspect like the scrums and that a Aussies scrum get rewarded for these tactics.

The draw means that the Springboks will have to win next week to really stand a change in staking a claim at the Championship this year.

name his starting team to face the All Blacks, on Thursday.

  1. He seemingly played almost the entire last 1/4 of his stint with that arm injury. Machine!

Will Trevor stat against the AB’s or will Ruan Dreyer leap-frog him?

  2. Talking of Wilco Louw, I still cannot believe the Bulls let this young man go, he is a scrumming machine and with the way their scrumming had gone over the past years, you would think a scrumming tighthead would have featured highly on their radar.

  3. @Aldo:

That is clear, while he was signing every available young centre in the country a few year’s back, props didn’t feature.

  4. I cannot believe that I am actually typing this, but losing Coenie is bad news. He has had a great season at tight head. With Kriel also our injured, that takes out 2 hugely influential players.

  5. @Aldo: @Craven:

If ever there was a case of STFU (and I’m not talking Timeo)… it was Coenie and most of us.

We’ve all known he’s destructive in the loose… we’ve all known he should have had almost 50 plus tests as Os Du Randt and Beast’s understudy.

But for the first time ever in a season I’ve been happy to see him pencilled in at TH. The guy was HUGE last weekend. Scrum ‘fairly’ steady (no thanks to ex-fly-half Jackson)… but those 18 huge hit tackles without missing 1 were telling!

Last week’s T5 is pretty much world class (whether my new fav ‘The Blood Nut’ starts or not)… this week I’m not so sure.

Boks are going to get murdered this weekend with an unbalanced back row, the same unbalanced back three, with zero exit kicking… et al.

  6. Many people underestimate the role the Lion’s props have played in their resurgence.

Penalty’s aside they are strong, tough and deceptively quick with hands to boot. One of the real reasons the T5 have been so good across the paddock.

    Ruan Dreyer is that.

I cannot really remember Wilcow Louw other than he looked like a monster playing in the RWCU20.

Is he in the squad as a stop-gap?

Just saw Aldo mention Kriel is out?

If it’s Jaco and not Jesse well then change my comment of murder to slaughter!

  7. Never going to happen… but with who is left in the squad…

6 Kolisi 7 JLDP 8 DDP bench Cassiem.

DDP matches Kieren Reid (just) and JLDP matches Fifita (just).
