The Crusaders had to work all the way to get their campaign of to a winning start when they beat the Brumbies 17-13 on Saturday.
The Crusaders had a perfect start to the match keeping ball in hand and putting it through the phases to score the first try of the match within 5 min.
The Brumbies missed first time tackles which gave the Crusaders enough space to work from.
The Crusaders defense was perfect in the first 20 min but the Brumbies did manage to get on the board through a penalty with the Crusaders leading 7-3 after 15 min.
The Crusaders looked very good on attack asking questions from the Brumbies on their defense.
The Brumbies lost a player with yellow card for a tackle on Dagg while he was in the air. This gave the Crusaders an extra man and they manage to score their second try in this period.
The Crusaders had to hold on to their lead at the end of the first half with the Brumbies throwing everything at them on attack.
The teams went into the break with the Saders leading 12-3.
The Brumbies had the perfect start keeping the ball in hand after a turnover in their own half and scored their first try.
The Crusaders put huge pressure on the Brumbies and kept them in their own twenty two. A few penalties followed and they scored their third try through a great scrum five meters out.
The Brumbies lived off scraps in the middle part of the second half and when they got the ball they made too many mistakes.
With the score at 17-13 the Brumbies had opportunity in the final few minutes to steal the game but Crusaders defense hold on.
The game ended with Crusaders hanging on for the win over the Brumbies
