Currie Cup 2019 – Griquas beat wobbly Western Province to stay on top of the pack

Tafel Lager Griquas put another great performance together when they beat DHL Western Province on Friday night in Kimberley 27-23.

Griquas dominated large parts of the game and took their opportunities in the first half to build scoreboard pressure.

Province went back to their old ways with plenty of opportunities wasted due to poor handling and decision making throughout the game.

Their discipline was poor as well and a few times the referee had to speak about players talking back and swearing on the field as well.

Province coach Dobson had his hands on his head as his players just could not sake the poor handling on the field.

The difference on the scoreboard was eventually the boot of Whitehead which kept the Griquas at the top of the log.

Province got a bonus point which may just help them getting into a playoff spot but other teams may take advantage and move above them with one round of matches left.

The problems for Province started at scrum time where Griquas dominated from start to finish and put huge pressure on the visitors.

One good thing form a WP supporters point of view was the impact Willemse made when he came onto the field. Province were able to score two of their three tries in the final five minutes of the match.
