Free State tasted their first defeat of the season when they went down against the Golden Lions in Bloemfontein on Friday.

It was another comeback effort from the Lions to take the win and stay unbeaten so far this season. The Golden Lions have made a habit so far coming back each time in the second half to get the wins.

Free State were all over the Lions in that first half but a last minute try just before the hooter brought the visitor right back in the game. The second half saw them claw there way back with Free State struggling to get the continuity they got in that first 40 minutes.

This left the Golden Lions with three wins from three matches so far.

Scorers:

Free State Cheetahs: Tries: Joseph Dweba, Walt Steenkamp, Marnus van der Merwe Conversions: Tian Schoeman, Benhard Janse van Rensburg Penalty: Louis Fouche

Golden Lions: Tries: Madosh Tambwe, Tyrone Green, Wandisile Simelane Conversions: Shaun Reynolds (3) Penalty: Reynolds

The Sharks were shocking in the second half on Saturday when the Pumas came from behind to beat them 27-20.

This was a game of two halfs with the one team dominating and the other struggling. The Pumas showed us some guts to upset the men from Durban after trailing 19-9 at the break.

Although the Sharks scored more tries the boot of Chris Smith punish the Sharks for giving away just too many penalties in that second half.

The discipline from the Sharks was just not good enough getting two sin bins during the match.

The Sharks have now put themselves in danger of not making the playoffs and this weekend they have the Free State to content with which will be no easy task

Scorers:

Phakisa Pumas 27 (9) – Tries: Francois Kleinhans, Simon Westraadt. Conversion: Chris Smith. Penalty goals: Smith (5).

Cell C Sharks 20 (17) – Tries: Lwazi Mvovo, Kobus van Wyk, Curwin Bosch. Conversion: Bosch. Penalty goal: Bosch.
