Currie Cup Preview – Vodacom Blue Bulls v Cell C Sharks


It is coming down to the wire this weekend in the Currie Cup as teams trying to scramble for a place in the playoffs.

For the Blue Bulls it is a game of pride although with a winning margin of 14 points and a bonus may see them make the playoffs of Province loose with no bonus points against Free State.

A win for the Sharks seal a place in the playoffs.

Western Province is one point behind them going into this weekend and a loss to the Blue Bulls and a win for Province will see the defending champions not making the playoffs.

The have two returning Springboks to bolster their side for this weekend with both Esterhuizen and Thomas Du Toit back in the team.

Du Toit will replace Majola and Esterhuizen will partner with Ward in the midfield for Saturday.

JP Pietersen will have his impact from the bench on Saturday.

We also see Oosthuizen returning after his short injury with van Vuuren taking up the number 2 spot.

The Blue Bulls also welcome back this week Springbok Lizo Gqoboka to bolster their front row.

Springbok Marco van Staden is also back after being released by Rassie Erasmus this week.

Corniel Els will make his first appearance for the Blue Bulls off the bench as well as Ruan Steenkamp.

There is also some more possible debutants in Isaacs who will come off the bench on Saturday.

Ivan van Zyl will lead the Blue Bulls again from the number nine jumper as they try and grind out a win.

Benefit fo both teams will be that they will know exactly what needs to be done by the time they run onto the field on Saturday evening.
