The Currie Cup round 2 finish up with all team now at least having played one game and again we saw some surprises over the weekend.

We had Griquas playing their first game at home after last week win over the Sharks, The Free State Cheetahs getting their campaign off to winning ways at Loftus and the Sharks bouncing back after the disappointing loss against Griquas.

Griquas has made it two from two when they beat the Pumas in Kimberley on Friday 37-29.

With this win the men from Kimberley have two bonus point wins from two matches and sitting nicely on the top if the Currie Cup log at the moment.

It was a close game throughout form the same two teams who played in the SuperSport Challenge Cup but it was waiting for something special which Volmink provided.

Free State got off to the perfect start when they beat the Blue Bulls 43-27 at Loftus.

In control of the game from the start they looked like a team that will be hard to beat in this years competition. It is a totally different start to the season than last year when they loss all their matches having to play a B-side in the Currie Cup.

Free State outscoring the Blue Bulls with six tries to five. Although they only had a 22-12 lead at the break Free State was in full control of the match and never really looked like relinquish that lead.

The Sharks got their first win of the season when they grind out a win over Province on Saturday beating them 32-27.

Both teams pitch up with the mindset to score tries but some good defence made this a very tight contest. At the end the Sharks scored 4 tries to the 3 of Province which was enough for a bonus point win which they desperately needed.
