Dave Rennie favourite to get Aussie job

Down under they are busy looking at who will take over from Michael Cheika after the World Cup in Japan as the head coach for the Aussies.

There has been a few names thrown around the last couple off weeks and it now seems that former Chiefs coach Dave Rennie may get the job.

England coach Eddie Jones has also been mentioned but he has ruled himself out.

I am happy in Europe,” Jones said, who was in charge of the Wallabies at the 2003 World Cup. “The Wallabies need a generational change in culture.

With Jones out it seems that Rennie may be the front runner with fellow New Zealander Warren Gatland also still in the mix according to reports.

Jones seemed not keen to take up another job now as he have also snubbed a potential coaching opportunity for the Lions tour to South Africa in 2021.

The 59-year-old told the Sydney Daily Telegraph newspaper coaching the Lions — seen as a great sporting challenge — was not for him.

The last thing I want to do is spend eight weeks in a blazer,” he said. “That’s an ambassador job. I’m a coach. I’d rather coach the Queensland Sheffield Shield team.”

We will watch this space to see how this story develop
