Rieko Ioane scored four tries in the match to give the Blues the first win of the season over the Sunwolves.
They were good enough to take a 28-20 win at the end but still a lot to do for the men in blue.
The game started with both teams wanting to throw the ball around and getting early ascendency. It was the Sunwolves that showed a bit more early on attack and force a penalty to take the early lead.
They got another penalty moments later with the blues that also got their scoreboard rolling with a penalty.
Defence from the Sunwolves was on par again early on knocking the Blues back in the tackles.
With the Sunwolves starting to give penalties away the Blues got an attacking lineout which they quickly moved to the wing for Rieko Ioane to get the first try.
This gave the Blues a 8-6 lead after 21 minutes.
It was the Sunwolves to score next after a mistake from the Blues, with some pretty good handling for their first try of the match.
The Blues hit back immediately with Rieko Ioane scoring his second of the match. This gave the Blues the lead back of 15-13.
The Blues came out with a bit more structure in their game and were rewarded with the first try of the second half to extend their lead to 20-13.
The Blues started to put more and more pressure on the Sunwolves and it was just a matter of time before the yellow card came and it did for a deliberate knock down and offside.
There was just not stopping Rieko Ioane as he scored his fourth try after some quick hands from his backline.
The Sunwolves got hold of the ball from the kick-off and put the ball through the phases to get their first try of the half to reduce the lead to 25-20.
With the Sunwolves trying to get some more points, the Blues had to step up on defence and they did just that. They turned defence into attack and forced a penalty close to the line to put the game away with 28-20.
The Sunwolves got another yellow card for again deliberate knockdown which just add more pressure which the did not need chasing the game.
At the end the Blues got the win and can feel a bit better after the first one for the season.
