Cheetahs v Lions (Result)

The Lions scraped through in Bloemfontein when they beat the Cheetahs 28-25 on Saturday.

Both teams started the match throwing the ball around and attacking at every opportunity they got but with that mistakes were in the order of they day.

It was the Cheetahs that started better in the match going through the phases and putting the Lions under pressure but the Lions defense did hold. They were very direct with their attack and made allot of ground in the first few minutes of the game.

When the Lions got a chance to attacking they took the opportunity and force a penalty to get the first points on the board.

Both teams tried to attack but poor handling and decision making came to nothing as they struggled to keep ball in hand for long periods. The field was wet and slippery but that can be no excuse for bad execution from both sides.

The teams were only able to trade penalties in the first half and ended up 6 all at the break.

The Cheetah scored their first try straight after the break when the Lions lost the ball and Rhule ran through for his try. That gave the Cheetahs a lead of 13-7 after 41 min.

The Cheetahs kept the scoreboard ticking over and added two more penalties to get their score to 19 points.

The Lions showed off their ability on counter attack and scored a great try from their own half and added a penalty to get the scoreboard to 19-16 after 62 min but the Cheetahs came back with yet another penalty and had a lead of 22-16 after 65 min.

The game then turned around when Uys was deemed to have taken a Lions drive down. The Lions got a penalty try which gave them a 23-22 lead and Uys got a yellow card for his trouble.

The Cheetahs were able to slot over another penalty which gave then back  the lead but that was short lived after Ross Cronje send Rohan away for the match winning try in the corner.

Was not the best games but a win the Lions will take.
