    Recap

It was not pretty but the Crusaders took the win over the Blues on Saturday 19-11.

Both teams made plenty of mistakes and where just not able to get it going for long periods of time. The Crusaders dominated the match but only two tries in the match explains the way things went for both sides.

The Crusaders quickly got themselves in the Blues red zone dominating play early on.

They tried a lineout drive but did not work with the Blues defence up to the challenge and eventually had to take the three points to take the early lead after 8 minutes.

They slotted another penalty over before they got there first try with some magic from Richie Mo’unga who put a little kick over the Blues and Bryn Hall at the end of it.

This gave them a 13-0 lead early on.

The Blues got into the home side half and after a few phases forced a penalty which they decided to kick to put them on the board.

The Blues defence got better as the half went on but could not do anything with the limited ball they got. They also kicked too many ball away with no real chasers.

Although the home side had most of the ball and territory they could not add to their score going into the break with a 13-3 lead.

The game could not really get going in the beginning of the second half with both teams making a few mistakes on attack.

The Crusaders did had an opportunity for three points but the kick was missed by Mo’unga.

The Crusaders was again robbed from a try when Mo’unga went over for a try in the corner but was taken out high. The Officials decided it was not high.

The Blues slotted a long range kick over to reduce the lead to 13-6 with 23 minutes to go.

The home side extended the lead immediately again with a penalty of their own.

The game took a turn with Rieko Ioane going over in the corner for the Blues to make it a five point game.

The home side got back to an eight point lead with a penalty with four minutes left on the clock.
