It was always going to be a difficult game for the Lions and even more so when they got the news late on Thursday that Warren Whiteley did not pass a fitness test.
The Crusaders were not clinical but they kept the scoreboard ticking over to take a bonus point win on Friday.
With the Crusaders having all the ball at the start of the game, they got Ennor through the gab and over for the first of five tries for the home side.
This gave them a 10-0 lead with the Lions being forced to defend. The Lions were able to put some pressure on the Crusaders and after they tried a few phases they eventually decided to go for points to get on the board.
The Crusaders camped in the Lions red zone and only desperate defence kept the Crusaders out after putting 26 phases together.
The Crusaders were next to score again with Havili with quick hands to Crotty who found Reece out wide who goes over.
At the break the Crusaders had a handy lead of 17-3.
The Crusaders was again first to score in the second half when George Bridge found the space and ran through for his try.
They quickly put another over when Bridge finished off a fantastic run form Ennor. This gave the Crusaders a 31-3 lead.
The Lions got their only try next when Ruan Combrinck got an intercept to get over.
This made the score 31-10.
The last try for the home side came from Reece with a chip kick which gave them the 36-10 lead.
The Crusaders kept the pressure on but could not get pass the Lions defence. It was a good day for the champions picking up a bonus point win at the end.
