The Lions had to work hard but got the win to stay in the race for the top spot in the South African conference. The beat the Highlanders 38-29.
The Lions was trying to make the play and spread the ball wide but it was the Highlanders that scored first from a turnover on the halfway line which resulted in a quick penalty and the try.
This gave them a 5-0 lead early on.
The Lions was next to score after a great break by Kwagga Smith to send Coetzee over for their first try and the lead of 7-5.
The Highlanders took the lead again when they put a few phases together and got Franklin over.
The Lions struggled again in the lineouts with Marx and his locks not finding each other again. This cost the Lions a few opportunities to score in the first half.
It was Kwagga Smith who put the Lions in front when he scored their second try of the match which Jantjies converted.
This gave the Lions a small 14-12 lead at the break.
It took a while before the first try in the second half but with some great pressure from them Kwagga Smith took a quick penalty to get over for their third try and a 21-12 lead.
The Highlanders did not let the Lions get away on the scoreboard getting their third try almost immediately after.
This closed the gab again to 21-17.
The Lions left a ball at the back off the ruck which Aaron Smith quickly snapped up and send Faddes down the line for another try and the lead of 22-21.
With a penalty from Jantjies the Lions took the lead again 24-22 with 16 minutes to go.
The Lions showed us their great handling when Shaun Reynolds was at the end of some brilliant play from the home side. This took their lead to 31-22 with 7 minutes to go.
The Highlanders hit back immediately with a try to make it a 2 point game.
The Lions ended the game with the try of the match when Jantjies showed his speed and Skosan to end it all off.
This gave the Lions a well deserved 38-29 win.
