    Emirates Lions v Rebels (Result)

It was one of those comebacks that you do not see often when the Lions fought back from 26-6 to beat the Rebels 36-33 at the end of eighty minutes.

A sunny and hot day greeted the Lions and Rebels in Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon.

It was the Lions that put the pressure on the Rebels immediately from the kickoff.

With a few phases in the Rebels half of the field they forced a penalty which Jantjies kicked out for attacking lineout.

The Rebels were found wanted as Marx took a quick lineout which got back to him for the first try of the match.

The Rebels hit back immediately with Hodge going over in the corner to make the score 5-all after 10 min.

With the Lions back in the Rebels twenty two, an intercept by the Rebels send them on their way for their second try after some brilliant passing for Cooper to go over.

The Lions put themselves under pressure with some poor decision making and from their own lineout gave the Rebels their third try with an intercept to extend their lead to 19-5.

The Rebels was dominating and did most of the attacking. The Lions seemed disorganised when the Rebels got their forth try to extend the lead to 26-5.

Going in at halftime the Lions and their supporters would have been very worried in the way they let the game slipped in that first half.

The second half did not start well with the Rebels getting fifth try and a lead of 33-5.

It would have asked a massive effort from the Lions to come back from that, and that is exactly what they did.

The Rebels clearly started to tired and were giving away just too many penalties when they were under pressure. The referee lost his patience and send Billy Meakes of with a yellow card.

This was just the motivation the Lions needed and they hit immediately with a try from Marnus Schoeman. Jantjies converted and the lead was reduced to 33-12.

The next try came straight after that with Andries Coetzee getting over the line to get the score board to 33-19.

Lionel Mapoe and Quade Cooper race for the ball in the in-goal area with Mapoe claiming the try. The TMO confirm the onfield decision and the Lions reduced the lead to 33-26 with 15 minutes to go.

The Lions then even the scores up at 33-all after a brilliant turnover from Malcolm Marx which gave Kwagga Smith the space to break away from their own twenty two before sending Courtnall Skosan away for the try.

The Rebels was kept in their twenty two and were still giving away penalties until referee Seconds gave Angus Cottrell a yellow card.

With two minutes left the Lions decided not to go for an easy penalty at goal and went for lineout.

The lineout did not go the way they wanted and they close to the line they knocked the ball on. With the hooter going off the Lions put in a massive scrum and forced the penalty.

Up comes youngster Gianni Lombard to kick the final penalty of the match to seal the game for the Lions, and the young man did not disappoint.

The kick went over and the Lions completed one of the those one in  lifetime comebacks to beat the Rebels 36-33.

        1. Marx turnover, Kwagga break away Skosan OVER!! Brilliant try for LIONS!! how different they playing form that first half

        2. Yellow card Rebels just too many penalties again, disappointing how negative Rebels play under pressure

        3. Saw some pretty stupid decision making from the Lions but got the win at the end. Need to work on game management. Wonder why Bulls have been so successful this year? Take points when it is there, you cannot run everything specially if your set pieces is not on par on the day
