It was not easy but the Highlanders hold off a desperate Jaguares in the second half to take the win on Saturday with 32-27.
The Highlanders started well with ball in hand showing that they will run the ball all day from anywhere on the field.
It was the Jaguares that scored the first try of the match even though the Highlanders had most of the ball. It was Matías Moroni who was at the end of it all.
This gave them a 7-0 lead.
The Highlanders worked through the phase to send James Lentjes over for their first try.
The were taking their chances more than the visitors and it took not long for them to get their second try and the lead when Faddes crosses the line.
The Jaguares were taking their points when on offer and took the lead back with a penalty but the Highlanders quickly cancelled it out when Patelesio Tomkinson went over.
With minutes to go the Highlanders had one last chance when they setup a lineout close to the Jaguares line. They setup the perfect drive and Liam Coltman was at the end of that maul.
This gave them a 26-13 lead at the break.
The Jaguares needed to score first in the second half and they did just that working the ball straight form the kickoff to get a seven pointer and reduce the lead to 26-20.
The Highlanders extended their lead to 32-20 again when converted two penalties.
The Jaguares hit back with a try by Ramiro Moyano after he left Aaron Smith for dead down the touchline.
Both teams tried to get in the others half which saw a lot of ping pong kicks in the last 10 minutes but nothing really coming from them.
The score stayed the same and the Highlanders got the win.
