The Rebels put together a great first half against the Highlanders to hold on to the win 24-19 on Friday.
The Highlanders almost did it again, and steal the win at the end but luck was on the Rebels side for this one.
The game started with an unbelievable pace from both teams as they try to give the ball air. They were going end to end but it was the Hurricanes that got the first try from a cross kick.
That gave them an early 5-0 lead, but it was soon changed when the Rebels got English over the line to take the lead.
With both teams trying to get the upper hand the Highlanders found them back in the Rebels half of the field. A disallowed try gave them the opportunity to kick for an attacking lineout.
They could not ask for a better lineout drive and it was Tokolahi at the end of it all to score their second try of the match.
With a lead of 12-7 the Highlanders looked good but the Rebels had other ideas. Starting to take control of the match and the ball the rebels got their second try not long after to retake the lead.
Pure Brilliance from Cooper send English over for his second and the Rebels third try which extend the lead to 19-12.
The Highlanders at this moment was being outplayed by the Rebels and just could not get hold of the ball.
The Rebels could have extended their lead but handling errors stated to creep in their game and they went into the break with a 19-12 lead.
The Rebels got off to the perfect start in the second half with a lucky bounce that got into the hands of Meakes to extend the lead to 24-12.
The game became a bit static with both teams having opportunities but handling errors prevent any more points.
It was the Highlanders that broke the deadlock in the 64 minute of the match when they got their next try to reduce the lead to 24-19.
This brought the Highlanders back in the game with 15 min to play.
The Highlanders almost stole the match at the end but lost the ball over the line to give the Rebels a scrum five meters out which ended the match for them really.
It was the great first half from the Rebels that gave them the win and they will be happy to have two win from two outings so far this season.
