You can not get much better than what the Highlanders showed in Tokyo on Friday when they demolish the Sunwolves 52-0.
It was a total domination by the Highlanders on the day and by far the best performance we have seen from them for some time.
It did not took long for them to get over for the first try with some brilliant attacking play inside the Sunwolves twenty two. It was Thomas Franklin at the end of it all to give them a 7-0 lead.
The second try came when Smith pounce on a ball after an error at scrum time which send Tyrel Lomax over. It was clear by now that the Highlanders will be going full throttle for 80 minutes.
They were exposing the defensive problems in the Sunwolves game and weer over the try-line within minutes again, this time Tevita.
The Sunwolves did try to get some phases together but errors was their biggest enemy. The Highlanders found it easy to expose the Sunwolves out wide when Ioane went over.
TRY! Highlanders (Ioane) 0-24 … an easy run in after finding the gap in the defence line from created space out wide.
Liam Coltman got one more before halftime which gave the Highlanders a 33-0 lead at the break.
The Highlanders kept playing a fast game out-wide and it took not long for Tevita Li to get their first try off the second half.
The Highlander got two more tries through Rob Thompson and Sio Tomkinson which took their tally to 52-0.
The Sunwolves did manage to get over the line but it was overruled by the TMO due to a forward pass.
At the end the Sunwolves came across a Highlander side who where just brutal on attack and a defence to back that up.
They would have most properly put 50 point against any team on the day.
Highlanders – Tries: Tom Franklin, Tyrel Lomax, Tevita Li (2), Josh Ioane, Liam Coltman, Josh Timu, Patelesio Tomkinson. Conversions: Josh Ioane (6).
Sunwolves – (no score)
