Sunwolves v DHL Stormers ( Result)

The Stormers was given an almighty scare on Saturday when the Sunwolves outplayed them in the first 50 min of the match leading them for most of the match. They eventually got over the line through some great play from their forwards to win 44-31.

It was a confident start for the Stormers as they got into the Sunwolves half and got the first penalty over to get a 3-0 lead.

The Stormers then made a comedy of errors giving the Sunwolves a change to get over for the first try and in the process Elstadt was given a yellow card for a dangerous tackle.

That gave the Sunwolves a 7-3 lead and the Stormers with 14-men for ten minutes.

The Sunwolves got into Stormers half again and got another penalty over to make the socre 10-3.

The Stormers then put some brilliant play together with Leyds cutting through the Sunwolves and some great hands lead to EW Viljoen to score their first try.

The Sunwolves took advantage of another handling error from Stormers, keeping the ball in hand and score in the corner.

That gave them the lead again with 17-10.

The Stormers defense was aweful through out that first twenty minutes and the Sunwolves again found it too easy to get through and their thrid try.

This gave the Sunwolves a 24-10 lead with the Stormers to play catchup rugby

The Stormers started to keep the ball with the forwards and went through plenty phases to socre at the end and reduced the score to 24-17.

The Stormers also slotted over a penalty before the break to give the Sunwolves a 24-20 lead.

The Sunwolves started the same way as they played throughout the first and the Stormers defense kept being pretty poor as they scored another try to get the scoreboard to 31-20.

The Stormers took it again with their forwards to score another try working hard for it to make the score 31-27 after 54 min.

The Stormers got Senatla running down the line and with good supporting play and a strong run from DU Preez got over for another try.

That gave then the lead of 34-31 after 62 min

The Stormers on attack lost Kebble for a yellow card after a silly tackle and gave the Sunwolves the chance to ge back in the match.

The Stormers kept the pressure on the Sunwolves which kept them in the Sunwolves half of the field.

The Stormers kept the ball again with forwards and they scored another try to take the lead 39-31 after 78 minutes.

They got a final try after the hooter to take the scoreboard to 44-31 at the end but they had to work hard for that win.

Serious questions should be asked about their defensive structures and defesne coach as they were exployeded by the Sunwolves in that first half.

  4. Hehe the great escape… I was actually (almost) rooting for the SW’s lol! I most certainly don’t want to see that loose-forward trio together again as a whole… lucky this wasn’t the Jaguars…
