Free State goes top of the log beating Sharks in Durban

Free State handed the Sharks their second defeat in the Currie Cup when they got a bonus point win in Durban with 38-30.

The top of the table clash in the Currie Cup week 6 saw the Sharks hosting the Free State Cheetahs and it started as we expected, a great old battle with the forwards.

The Free State scrum was something of a beauty when they took on the Sharks. It was the Sharks that put first points on the board through a penalty from Bosch.

The two teams match up well and it was the Free State that scored the first try though a great scrum which force the referee to award them with a penalty try.

The Sharks got two penalties which Bosch had not much trouble with putting over and took the lead with 9-7.

With Free State putting pressure on the Sharks in their own twenty two they forced the Sharks to make mistakes and a charged down gave them their second try of the match and the lead back with 14-9 after 28 min.

With both teams fighting for possession and territory it made the game a tight affair and not much in it in the first forty.

Free State extended the lead to 17-9 after a penalty but that was reduced to 17-12 at the stroke at half time when Bosch got his forth penalty over.

This made it still everything to play for in the second half for both teams.

The Free State score two tries to stretch the lead to 31-18 and earned their 4 try bonus point within 54 min.

Du Preez also got a yellow card for the second week in row for a dangerous tackle leaving the Sharks with fourteen men again in the match.

Bosch kept the Sharks somewhat in touch with his boot through penalties but they need tries rather than three point penalties.

With the Sharks forwards struggling Free State had much better ball to attack from.

With fourteen men the Sharks showed much better composer and through a few phases they got over for their first try to make the lead of Free State only 31-25 after 60 min.

Free State took the Sharks defense again on and got their fifth try to pull away a bit from the Sharks but the Sharks with their never give up attitude got one back with 10 min to go.

That made the score 38-30 after 70 min.

The score stayed that way giving them a bonus points win in Durban.
