The Golden Lions cruised to a 71-7 win against the EP Kings in PE on Saturday, with it all to play for against the Sharks next week in the last round of matches.
Not too many people expected the Kings to put up much of a fight against this Golden Lions on Saturday as they have not had any great year in the boardroom, Super Rugby nor Currie Cup.
With the Golden Lions dominating the scrums, line outs and all the ball, all the Kings could do was defend, defend, defend for most of the game.
The Lions made a few handling mistakes and the Kings defense was great, slowing the ball down which frustrated the Lions in the first half.
After 18 min the Golden Lions finally got the ball over the line to score their first try of the match and took the lead 7-0. The Kings put some brilliant phases together and they got over for their first try with excellent speed and hands to make the scores level at 7 all.
It took the Lions not long to get there game back in playing some great running rugby controlling the match and the scoreboard with a brilliant try from Mnisi. This opened the door for the Lions to score two quick tries through Marx and Kwagga to take a 26-7 lead at halftime
The second half started for the Lions as they ended it with a great try to extend the lead and really pulled away from the Kings on the scoreboard. It seemed that it was just coming too easily for the Lions from there on end and got their second try of the second half soon after.
The Lions never let go,unfortunately for the EP Kings, as the Lions just kept on scoring tries and won the game 71-7 at the end scoring 11 tries to 1.
This make next week game a quarter final between the Lions and the Sharks with the loser possibly out of the race for a semi final spot.
