Lions get bonus point win over Rebels

The Lions got a bonus point win over the Rebels on Saturday when they bet them 47-10.

It was a frantic start to the match with the Lions putting wave on wave of attacks together but with a Rebels side that just kept hitting them back.

It was not just tackling of the Lions but tackling them back and preventing a couple of tries through their brilliant defence.

The Lions speed on attack was brilliant and found the space but just could not finished it off.

It took the Lions 20 min to get over for the first try with Kwagga Smith the man over the line and a lead of 7-0.

The Lions kept attacking and playing in the Rebels half. After a drive from the lineout that was going nowhere Cronje took the ball and with some great stepping got over for the Lions second try.

The Rebels then got on the board through a great try in the corner through English. This reduced the Lions lead to 14-7 after 29 min.

The Lions had one more try in them before the end of the half after another great break by Skosan as they ended the first half with a lead 0f 19-7.

The Rebels got the first points in the second half with a penalty to reduce the lead to 19-10 but Mahuza then ran almost through the whole Rebels team to score a great try for the Lions.

The Lions kept the pressure on the Rebels and after a drive from the lineout was pulled down from the Rebels the referee awarded a penalty try and a yellow card for the Rebels.

This gave the Lions a 33-10 lead. The next try did not take long with Volmink going over and a 40-10 lead.

The Rebels kept trying but handling errors and some great Lions defence kept them out.

The Lions made the perfect end to the game with their captain going over for their last try of the match and a win of 47-10.

Lions – Tries: Kwagga Smith, Ross Cronjé, Courtnall Skosan, Sylvian Mahuza, penalty try, Anthony Volmink, Warren Whiteley. Conversions: Elton Jantjies (6).

  1. Happy Birthday Dawie…

Yeah Lions were exceptional in parts… great in others… but they still have a few sections where they play too loose when they should be tightening up, improving their tactical and exit kicking and have to be able to control the game from 10…

Definitely going to need that aspect come the play-offs against the Kiwi sides…
