The Golden Lions went to Kimberley and beat Griquas in their own back yard on Saturday 27-26.

What a game of rugby did we see in Kimberley with Griquas hosting the Golden Lions.

It was all Lions in the first half as the Griquas struggled to get any ball with some forward momentum.

The Lions scored three tries before the home side could get anything on the board but crucially they got a forward drive going from an attacking lineout to get some points before halftime.

The Lions first half tries came from Stean Pienaar, Tyrone Green and Madosh Tambwe.

They were full value for the lead but let Griquas back in the game with that late try in the first half.

The second half started well for the home side two more tries from AJ le Roux and Wilmar Arnoldi to give them the lead in the match for the first time.

The Lions hit back immediately to take back the lead when Stean Pienaar got over for their 4th try of the match.

Griquas did not let the scorers sit still with a brilliant team try which was rounded off by Gideon Van der Merwe to retake the lead.

A penalty late in the game turned the lead over again to the Golden Lions and this time they were able to keep the Griquas out till the final whistle to take a 27-26 win.
