James O’Connor and David Pocock will travel to Johannesburg to link up with the squad.

Both players will only be training with the squad ahead of the test against the Springboks and are not part of the test squad.

O’Connor is not an official member of the squad and needs a Super Rugby deal to make him eligible to play for the Wallabies, so he only joins the squad as a train-on member.

It is however understood that he is close in signing a Super Rugby deal which will make him eligible for a test return after he was released from his contract at Sale.

It looks like the Reds may be the one that will secure O’Connor’s signature.

If the deal do come through with the Reds, O’Connor will be immediately available for Cheika to pick for his Wallabies.

Pocock will also join the team in Johannesburg although he was not included in the 34-man squad.

He is busy with his rehab on his calf injury and Cheika want to do this rehab with the team on tour to get him back to fitness as soon as possible.

The Wallabies will face the Springboks in their first round match of this years Castle Rugby Championship.

The game will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
