Highlanders prop Ross Geldenhuys is heading back to South Africa to join the Southern Kings ahead of the Super Rugby season.

The veteran has been with the Highlanders for the last two seasons but was not re-signed by incoming head coach Tony Brown for 2017.

Geldenhuys impressed in New Zealand with his performances for Tasman Makos in the Mitre 10 Cup and believes he has plenty to offer the Kings, who finished 17th overall in Super Rugby this year.

“I’m enjoying my rugby at the moment and I hope to cement a starting berth at the Southern Kings, as I’ve really enjoyed playing in the run-on team for Tasman this year,” Geldenhuys told Sport24.

“I’ve worked extremely hard in the last couple of years and I’m probably fitter and stronger than ever before.

“I know I still have a number of seasons left in me and I’m excited to be returning to South Africa.”
