It was not a game the French will write home about as they struggle for most parts of the test but did was needed to get a bonus point win over the USA.
Handling and penalties given away in this match will worry the French as they progress in the tournament and something that needs to be sorted out before they take on the better teams in this World Cup.
The USA was in the game till the 69 minutes before France scored three tries in the last 10 minutes of the match to pull away with the win of 33-9.
It was France all over the USA in the first few minutes of the test and they quickly converted their territory of possession into points with Yoann Huget ending off some great play by France.
That gave them a 7-0 lead but the USA quickly showed the French they are not there to roll over as they pin France down in their own twenty two.
USA execution was not great and France were able to exit their danger zone.
USA got on the board from a penalty to make the score 7-3 but it was some brilliance again from Camille Lopez who put a cross-kick to Alivereti Raka who dive over in the corner for their second try.
This gave France a 12-3 lead. USA disrupt France play as they looked very flat.
France had no structure in attack and in general play which kept the USA in the game. At some times USA was very unlucky not to have gotten more on the scoreboard but they did manage another penalty before halftime.
This send the teams into the break with France leading 12-6.
The second half saw France with most of the ball but handling errors was part or their attacking game which prevent them from scoring.
It was USA that put the first points on the board in the second half with a penalty in the 63 minute to reduce the lead to 12-9.
The French wake up a bit putting a great passage of play together to send Gael Fickou over.
France took not long to get their bonus point try with Baptiste Serin. This gave France a lead of 26-9 after 71 minutes.
There was one more try for France from a driving maul to end the game with a score that really flatter the French.
At the end they did what was needed but plenty to work on for France if they want to compete against the best.
