Rumors that JJ on his way back to WP

Nuus24 reported that the chances are good for the return of JJ Engelbrecht to WP Rugby. After almost six years since Engelbrecht and Sadie left WP Rugby for the Blue Bulls he wants to return back to Cape Town.

JJ was a player that had plenty of potential but was moved from wing to the midfield by the Blue Bulls which also saw him earning his Springbok colors.

In hindsight he should have maybe stayed on the wing which saw him as a great attacker at Western Province and many expected much from the then young wing.

In the midfield JJ never had the best of defence which saw him lost his Springbok spot and later also his starting spot at the Bulls. JJ moved to Japan to play club rugby for Toyota Industries Shuttles.

It seemes WP Rugby is making a habit in buying players that is sometimes past their sell by date.

His return to WP will come with mixed feelings as there are already noises that  Sergeal Petersen and Raymond Rhule on their way is to Cape Town.

Time will tell if this will actually happen

  1. JJ’s move the 13 was one of the best choices he ever made. He was brilliant but sadly got injured and lost form. I’d still have him in my team for superrugby above half the centres we have playing 13 at the moment

  2. I’m not sold on JJ’s defence being that crap… injury aside it most certainly wasn’t when the Bulls were still a competitive side. He was unlucky not to be given another chance at Bok level down to only a handful of rookie mistakes… there’s been far worse with second chances. And if he’s still as quick as ever he’s definitely got a lot to offer any top tier side as a centre/wing option. Personally he should go to the NH and make some moolah.

Big, quick, strong, excellent stepping, great hands, scoring machine…

  3. jjs defence was a bit crap I think. But with that speed his either an outside centre. Dunno about de allende. Think de Allende v good if he gets hungry and starts breaking the tackle hard – looking too laidback easy capetonian. V good in getting hands through tackle and v hard to stop. We got some outstanding centres at moment. RJVR must also shot.

  4. Why are buying Peterson? We have enough manlet wings at WP, we need bigger guys on the outside.
