Griquas v Western Province

The Tafel Lager Griquas got their first win of the season on Wednesday when they stun the Western Province team in Kimberley 44-34.

Griquas have ended a six year losing streak against Province on Wednesday and did it in style as well in front of a good crowd.

Griquas and Province score five tries each which earn both a bonus point but it was Andre Swarts boot that was the difference at the end of the day for the home side.

Griquas dominated possession and filed position in the first half but struggled a bit to turn that into points on the board.

Swarts boot put the first points on the board that gave the home side the lead after Province have decided three times to go for a lineout and not for points.

Griquas hard work in that first half paid off when prop Liam Hendricks muscled his way handing off three defenders on his way to the tryline.

It was all Griquas as they dominated play in Province half of the field with WP struggling in defence captain AJ Coertzen went over for their second try and a lead of 17-3.

Although Province struggled they scored two quick tries through Basson and Carr which brought them right back into the game at 17-15 at the break.

Senatla went over next given Province the lead of the match forthe first time, but that was short lived as Griquas hit back immediately to retake the lead 24-22.

A great step and dummy from Coleman gave the visitors their bonus point try and the lead again and soon after Marais went over for their fifth try and a lead of 34-24.

Griquas was not done and Tiaan Doorfling went over first for the home side which was followed by Wehr and Griquas was back into the lead with 38-34.

Griquas played well to keep Province out that last ten minutes to end a long losing streak and a great 44-34 win
