He will be with the Eastern Province Kings for this year’s Currie Cup series.

“When we talked about his future, he asked for the Cheetahs to negotiate,” said Mede8 Sports, the agency that represents him, in a statement.

“The Cheetahs’ game plan suits him, he wants to play Super Rugby and it was important to us that he keeps momentum after good performances in the Junior World Cup in New Zealand.”

Earlier this week, the Springbok wing  Cornal Hendricks extend his contract with the Cheetahs until the end of 2015. Clayton Blommetjies, utility back player for the Blue Bulls sign on  Monday with the Free State Cheetahs.

Another addition, the former Sevens Springbok and longtime stalwart of the WP, Joe Pietersen, will be joining the Cheetahs for 2015’s Super Rugby as a replacement for Johan Goosen.

The possibility is also that the Cheetahs will sign utility back of the Pumas, Coenie van Wyk. He played for the Lions Super Rugby this year and if he decides to become a Cheetah it will be add great value for the Cheetahs.

The Cheetahs lost a few back players and these editions will be great for their season next year.

Among the backs who leaves the Cheetahs are , the fullback Hennie Daniller (Zébre), Goosen (Racing Metro), center Piet Lindeque (farmer) and utility back Riaan Smit (Oyonnax).

The center Johann Sadie is not available for the Currie Cup , but will be back  for the 2015’s Super Rugby for  consideration. He will now be playing  for the Japanese club Docomo Red Hurricanes.

  1. Good to see Cheetahs unbowed & rebuilding from the ashes caused by ZeeBulls Richie-Rich-Raid.

Nominations are open for Joe Pietersen nicknames (Was this guy great or what with Stormers – loved his play there)
His haircolor makes him a “Toehead” but that sounds a little gruff for a guy sporting a Brent Russell frame.
    Decisions, Decisions….

  2. Joe Pietersen in his last Super season was better than anything I’ve seen from Goosen at the same level… good signing… however the backline is starting to look a wee bit Orkish… and with the abysmal defence this year at the Cheetahs… not a good sign…
