Former Springbok and Sharks player Dick Muir may return to Durban next season as an assistant coach to Robert Du Preez.

Netwerk24 has reported that the Sharks and Muir are discussion the details of his contract.

Muir was in charge of the Sharks for three seasons from 2005-2007. He then became a Springbok assistant coach from 2008 to 2011.

These alleged talks have sparked rumours that current Sharks assistants Ryan Strudwick and Sean Everitt may lose their jobs. Strudwick’s contract comes to an end later this year. Everitt has a year left on his contract and may be reassigned within the Sharks ranks.

Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann refused to comment on the matter.

“Nothing has been finalized. We will make an announcement as soon as there is anything official to report,” he told Sport24.

Muir is currently working as a coach at the Crusaders club in Durban. He is also Northwood High School’s director of rugby and the head of an international rugby academy.

As a player, Muir represented the Sharks and Western Province and played five Tests for the Springboks.
